Close to the citie but offering an exhilarating wild serenity Rajaji National Park is famous for its elephant population. As a scenic feature and a bio-diverse area located at the foothills of the Himalayas, with the Ganga and Song rivers flowing through it, the park is easily accessible from Haridwar, Rishikesh, and Dehradun. The park is the home to Elephants, tigers, leopards, deer, and ghorals, as well as many species of birds including a variety of hawks. This area is the northwestern limit of Asian elephants. Spread over an area of 820.42 sq km, Rajaji is a magnificent ecosystem nestled in the Shivalik ranges at the start of the vast Indo–Gangetic plains, thus representing vegetation of several distinct zones and forest types.
